Courses to Help you Prepare for the CELTA, DELTA & more
Teachers of English may need language development and further awareness or further work on specialist areas. You may need an advanced grammar course – native speakers need it because they may have never studied grammar before and non-native teachers may need to upgrade their grammatical knowledge. You may need to learn the basics of teaching languages online or some help with your academic writing skills.
TEFL Courses to Top up after your CELTA or DELTA!
Teaching is a profession that requires continuous professional development and this is done by teachers either because they feel the need themselves, or because a new job or career direction requires them to seek out further education in that area. Many teachers look for further specialisation once they have completed their CELTA or even their DELTA course. For example, you may want to specialise in Teaching Young Learners after your CELTA during which the Teaching Practices were only with adult learners but your first job is with young and very young learners! Advanced courses include work on becoming a teacher trainer or developing your skills as a Manager of an English Language school.

Will face-to-face teaching be replaced by online teaching?
This may happen one day, and sooner than we think. Today, there are millions of learners worldwide who have opted for this mode of learning because of its convenience and immediacy. Teachers who work online are becoming more and more common and much of our training and development has now started being offered online as well!!!
These lines, written in 2016, could not have predicted the changes that left so many teachers gasping for air when they suddenly had to transition from offline to remote teaching!! Since then, more and more teachers who are now mostly engaged in teaching online are looking for short and practical ways to organise, manage and enhance their teaching with new tools and applications. The world wide web has thousands upon thousands of affordances for the knowledgeable teacher to help them avoid the ‘talking head’ syndrome of teaching as a lecture exercise.
But let’s have a look at our course content.
Areas covered on this course
Teaching online involves a skillset which teachers need over and above their knowledge of language, analysis, skills development and pedagogical principles governing teaching a foreign language. This course will prepare you to be a more skilled teacher-practitioner and will help you acquire confidence and criteria for choosing and using the best applications and tools for your teaching.
- Creating a positive atmosphere online – icebreakers and lead ins
- Analysing learner needs and tools for collecting information for learners
- Learning about different synchronous platforms – Zoom, Adobe, and more
- Tools for teaching and supporting Grammar and Vocabulary Lessons
- Teaching listening and speaking online
- Teaching reading and writing online
- Presenting your materials in online classrooms
- Sharing materials with learners during classes
- Different asynchronous platforms for supporting live classes
- Homework and tools for homework of different types
The course is an evolving one, much as the way we teach evolves all the time, and will respond to the changing needs of participants and new tools and affordances appearing online.
Assessment & Certification
Trainees are assessed through a Practical Teaching Assignment. This involves writing a lesson plan for an online class or a a set of materials for online delivery. Trainees who attend the course fully and complete their assignment receive a Certificate of Attainment.

With a Trainer Training Certificate teachers show they have:
-

- deepened their understanding of key issues in planning and delivering training courses
- developed an understanding of good practice in observing and giving feedback to course participants
- identified strategies for their further development as a trainer.
Are you eligible to attend?

CELT is happy to organise extra courses, especially in the winter term, for groups of teachers from the same institution or teaching association.
Special feature of the CELT course
A special feature of our course is the opportunity we offer our trainees to experience Training Practice – with real trainee teachers, not just their peers.

Are you interested in offering your staff the opportunity for some teacher development? CELT Athens can organize a workshop, a one-day seminar, or even a whole course especially for you and your teachers.
We have run a multitude of INSET* (in-service training) courses for some of the finest foreign language centres throughout Greece and abroad. We pride ourselves on having contributed to their excellent reputation for quality in foreign language education.
IMPORTANT NOTE - Technology now allows us to organise webinars, so wherever your school may be, we can run a short refresher workshop or series of online workshops at a cost much lower than a face-to-face event.
*INSET stands for in-service training, i.e. the teachers are training while working and the training is offered as part of their continuous development. Sessions are usually held at the premises of the school or association or group of teachers, lthough it is possible to run them at CELT Athens if requested. CELT is centrally located and has excellent facilities, including an extensive ELT library for teachers, teacher trainers and researchers. CELT Athens has extensive experience of running such programmes. Read below to see the names of just a few of the foreign language centres we have run such programmes for and also view some of the comments of the Directors of Studies/School Owners.
How will your school benefit?
Apart from the fact that the seminars and workshops are tailor-made to cater to the needs of your institution and your staff, students and course books you are using, these opportunities for teacher development generate motivation, enthusiasm and a team spirit. Teachers develop closer collaborative bonds, a desire to excel and the overall effect is an improvement in the quality of teaching and materials.
Who are the trainers?
The trainers are all highly qualified professionals with extensive teaching and teacher training experience. All hold postgraduate qualifications at M.A. level in TEFL, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics or both. All tutors are RSA Diploma holders themselves and train on all CELT courses including the the Cambridge DELTA Diploma and CELTA, as well as programmes offered to the PALSO teacher training programmes and to foreign language centres. Click read the comments of two school owners we have run INSET courses for and here to view the profiles of the CELT Athens tutors.
How to select topics
Click to download this Seminar Checklist - a list of topics for your teachers to choose from.
Topics can be selected by the Director of Studies, a teacher supervisor, the teachers, or, ideally both! There is also space for you to add your own topics or to ask for specific book training, i.e., how to best use and adapt a course book you have already selected.
One of the CELT Athens tutors can also assist you and your staff by discussing issues and problems with groups and individuals, or by being invited to visit a number of classes (in person or remotely) to identify areas of difficulty and possible topics for workshops.

If you need further information or someone to visit your school, please send an email to info@celt.edu.gr or call +30 697406 5437 for an appointment with Marisa Constantinides
